Although Guernsey is dependent on the British Crown, it has had its own car and motorcycle license plate system since 1908, just like in Jersey and Alderney. Guernsey forms the Bailiwick of Guernsey, which includes the island of Guernsey, Alderney, Sark, and Herm.
The license plates of Guernsey use between 1 and 5 numbers, in gray characters on a black background, or in black on yellow (rear plate) and white (front plate). The numbering does not depend on the colors used on the plate. Occasionally, the international code GBG (in use since 1926) may be included within an oval on the plate.
