Since 2006, the license plates of the Republic of Abkhazia have used a format similar to the Russian one. On the right part of the Abjasias plate, you can find the flag of the territory under the code ABH that identifies Abkhazia. The license plate system from Abkhazia consists of one letter, three numbers and two letters, using the Cyrillic alphabet. The unofficial code of this territory, ABH, is displayed above the flag.
The license plates of the Republic of Abkhazia (unofficially using the code ABH) have been in use since approximately 2006. These plates bear a strong resemblance to the Russian system.
These license plates are only allowed to circulate within Abkhazian territory, which is located inside Georgia, on its western coast. They are also permitted in Russia and South Ossetia. However, their circulation is prohibited in the rest of Georgia and is not allowed in any European or European Union country.
The current plates closely resemble the Russian system, using the same characters as in that country: А, Б, В, Е, К, М, Н, О, Р, С, Т, У, and Х. Additionally, since the late 2000s, the territory’s flag is placed on the right side of the plate, which follows the A000AA format. In some regions, the arrangement of letters can indicate different areas or special systems. Trailers use a similar system but start with the letters AX. Since 2010, temporary plates follow the standard format but have a yellow background and start with the letter T. Square plates are allowed, displaying the first letter and the first three numbers on the top, while the remaining two letters and the flag are on the bottom.
The president of the territory uses distinctive combinations, including A001AA.
Diplomatic plates have a red background with white characters. On the far right, separated by a vertical line, is the unofficial territory abbreviation, ABH. The plate format starts with the embassy number (three digits), followed by one or two letters (D or CD), and ends with one, two, or three digits. Codes exist only for Russia and South Ossetia.
Number | State or Territory |
